General Questions

Why do I need to register? Registering lets you create your own Book Adventure account. Once you have your own account, we can help you keep track of all of the points you earn so you can win cool prizes! Registering also helps your parents and teachers keep track of how you are doing. back to top

My parent does not have e-mail. What do I do? If your parent does not have an e-mail account, tell him to click on the "Parents Place" button on the homepage and then click on the "FAQ" button. Here your parent will be able to access Lycos for a free e-mail account. back to top

What's a User Name? A User Name is the made-up name that you pick when you register. Unlike your real name, it can be anything you want, like Kangaroo or Skateboarder - just keep it clean and make up something that nobody else will have thought of already! We have a lot of kids registered on our site, so be as creative as possible when creating your user name. You may want to combine a name with a number that is important to you (sports number, part of a phone number, birthday…). back to top

Why did I need to submit my parent's e-mail address? Your parent's e-mail address lets us know where to send your prize requests so your parent can approve them. When you submit your parent's e-mail address, we can tell them that you've registered at Book Adventure; once they register, you can start redeeming prizes! (Remember, you can still play without a parent's e-mail address, you just will not be able to win the prizes that need your parent's approval.) back to top

What's a Class Name? When your teacher registered, he or she chose a Class Name for the whole class to use. That way, when you start quizzing and earning prizes, your teacher can see how well you are doing, and we know who to ask for prize approval. Click here for additional help. back to top Why did I need to submit my Class Name? When you submit your Class Name, we can tell your teacher that you've registered at Book Adventure. He or she can then see how you're doing and approve your prize requests. back to top My parent wants to learn more about Book Adventure. Is there anything I can show him or her? Definitely! They can also go the "Tour the Site" section or "FAQ" section to learn more about what Book Adventure has to offer. back to top What do I do if I forget my password? When you register, after entering your password twice, you are asked to enter a hint. If you forget your password, simply click on the "forget your password" sentence in the Log-on yellow circle on the homepage. Enter your user name in the field under "Forget your password?" and your hint will be displayed. Always select a user name and password that you will remember, and record it in a secure place. back to top Questions About Your Account How do I tell Book Adventure my parent's e-mail address if I didn't enter it when I registered? The Account Info page on the Kids Zone Main Menu will let you enter your parent's e-mail address so that they can register and link to your account. Make sure you type in their e-mail address exactly and click Submit to save the changes; then let them know so that they can register. back to top My parent's e-mail address changed - what should I do? Your parent will need to change his or her e-mail address in the Parent's Account Information section of Book Adventure. Remind him or her to do this right away so that you don't lose any prize requests! You can update the email address on your account by logging into the Book Adventure site and clicking on Account Information. Update the email address, then click Submit. back to top I'm in a new class at school - how do I change my Class Name so that my new teacher can approve my prizes? The Account Info page on your Main Menu will let you change your Class Name when you enter a different class. You'll just enter the new Class Name where you see the old name, and then the teacher's last name. Be sure to then click Submit to save the change. Make sure you know your new Class Name exactly - entering an incorrect one could erase all your points! back to top Questions About Book Finder How can I find a really cool book to read? Register on Book Adventure and then check out the Book Finder! If you know a cool author, you can enter his or her name in the Book Finder search engine - it will find all the kids' books that he or she has written. Or, you can get Rex and Bailey to help you find a book - you'll tell them what grade you're in and what some of your hobbies and interests are, and they'll find something great for you to read! back to top How do I print out a list of books? Book Adventure allows you to create reading lists once you register, which can be customized to your grade level, interests, or favorite author. For example, to access reading lists by grade level, follow these steps (you may want to ask your parent or teacher to help you do this): Log in to your account as you normally would. Click "Book Finder". "Help Me Find a Book" allows you to view books based on grade level and interests. To view all books for one grade, select the grade level in the first pull-down menu, and "all of the matching books" in the "How many books would you like returned?" pull-down menu at the bottom of the page. Leave all other menus and check boxes empty to view every kind of fiction and non-fiction book for that grade level. Then click the "Submit!" button. The "Search Results" page will appear, listing all of the books for the grade level selected. You may either view the list online, or click "Print" in the upper left corner of "Search Results" to generate a printable page. back to top Can I read books online that I search for at Book Adventure? Book Adventure does not provide books online. Readers use Book Adventure to create reading lists based on their grade level and interests, locate the books at their school, home, library, or bookstore, and take quizzes at Book Adventure's Quiz-O-Matic. back to top Questions About Quiz-O-Matic What if I can't find the book that I read? Check to make sure that you've got the correct title or author typed in - if you do, it's possible that we may not have a quiz in the Quiz-O-Matic for that book at the moment, so it won't be listed. back to top I can't submit my answers on the Quiz-O-Matic page. Make sure you've answered all of the questions before you click SUBMIT! Quiz-O-Matic won't grade your quiz until you've answered all of the questions. Make sure to only click on Submit one time! back to top Help, Quiz-O-Matic won't let me take a quiz! First, make sure you are registered. Then, Quiz-O-Matic allows you to quiz on a book up to 2 times, or until you score perfectly, whichever comes first. So if you've quizzed on that book twice or already aced it, it's time for a new book's quiz! You may also want to check with your parent or teacher to see if they have set up quiz grade level parameters. If they have the quiz you are looking for may be outside of the parameters they have set up for you. back to top How come I don't earn points for every quiz that I take? Book Adventure has been modified so that Readers now only receive points for the highest score greater than 90%** when taking quizzes on a book. **For reading level K-2, the percentage is 80% instead of 90%. For more information on this change, click here. back to top Questions About Cool Stuff How do I print out something from Cool Stuff? When you click on the Print button, a new, printable screen will open up. Go to the Print function on your web browser and follow its instructions … soon, you'll have Cool Stuff spitting out of your printer! back to top Questions About Prizes How do I get prizes? After you've registered and earned points on a quiz, check out the Prize Library page to see what prizes you have enough points to redeem. Click on any prize to see if you have enough points to earn it. If you do, click "Get this prize!" if that's the one that you want. We'll send a message to your parent or teacher asking them to approve it right away! Some prizes are "Instant Win" prizes (See the Cool Stuff section), and can be printed out directly from your computer. These prizes do not require parent or teacher authorization. back to top How come I can't pick one of the prizes? If you can't pick one of the prizes, it's because you don't have enough points yet to redeem it. Keep reading, and you'll be there in no time! back to top I picked a prize but I have not received it yet. Why not? Once you make a prize selection, Book Adventure has to get permission from your parent or teacher before we release your prize to you. If they haven't approved it yet, or if they decided not to approve it, that could be why. If they have approved it, there are 2 ways to receive a prize. One is printable coupons or an order form, which you print from your account. The second is a downloadable prize that you download, print and get immediately. Check out the Prize Status page to see what's going on with your prizes, and remind your parent or teacher to log into his or her e-mail and approve those prizes! back to top How long does it take a prize to get to me? Once your parent or teacher has approved a prize, you can print the printable coupons as soon as you log on again. The downloadable prizes you can get by logging into your account and printing them. Those you get immediately. back to top Besides just asking my parent, how can I find out if my prize is on the way? Check out the Prize Status page to see what's going on with your prizes! There you can see what prizes you've earned so far, when you picked them, and whether your parent or teacher has approved them yet. back to top What happens to my points if my parent or teacher doesn't approve my prize request? If a parent or teacher doesn't approve a prize, or if 30 days pass after a kid has picked the prize, all points will be returned back to the kid. That means the child gets to pick a new, different prize! If a parent or teacher disapproves a prize request, the points are automatically reinstated to the kid. back to top I still have questions or I have suggestions.
