Founded in 1989 through a grant from the William R. Kenan, Jr., Charitable Trust, the National Center for Family Literacy has as its mission the advancement and support of literacy services for families across the United States through programming, training, research, advocacy, and dissemination of information. The NCFL supports the four-component family literacy program model that brings parents and children into the learning environment together. These include adult education, early childhood education, parent/child interaction time, and parent groups.
