The National Education Association (NEA) annually sponsors NEA’s Read Across America program. Now in its sixth year, NEA’s Read Across America generates enthusiasm for reading nationwide and focuses the country’s attention on how important it is to motivate children to read in addition to helping them master basic skills. The major thrust of the year round program is the nationwide reading celebration that takes place each year on or near March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s author, Dr. Seuss, but NEA’s Read Across America also provides NEA members, parents, caregivers and children the resources and activities they need to keep reading on the calendar 365 days a year.
